Multicultural Club Presents: International Dinner!

By Ayza Ali ‘28

One of the many things that makes Wyoming Seminary so special is the diversity of students from all over the world. This type of diversity deserves to be celebrated, and the Multicultural Club did so by hosting another annual International Dinner. The dinner, which took place on March 28, 2026, was a huge success with over 100 students participating. In total, there were 42 countries represented by 76 special, cultural dishes. Students were given the opportunity to teach others about their cultures through sharing their delicious home cooked meals.

Although the dinner started in the late afternoon, preparations began earlier as most students started cooking in the morning. By dinnertime, the Sem community joined together in the big gym to taste test these foods from all around the world. With the International Dinner being one of the biggest events of the year, it is safe to say that students were not disappointed with the turn out, especially the members of the Multicultural Club. Prem Patel ‘27, president of the club said, “I’m really happy with this year’s results, and I’m looking forward to doing even better next year”. Patel also mentioned that he was happy to see that the international dinner brought the community even closer together through the connection of food. After the dinner, every student walked away with new, cultural knowledge, and a full stomach.

While many students became chefs for the day and cooked for their peers, others stopped by to just enjoy the cultures and the foods. Chloe Kutney ‘27 shared, “My personal favorite dish was the sushi from Japan, but everything was delicious.” Kutney also noted that her favorite part of the dinner was seeing how excited and passionate her peers were about sharing their cultures. The energy the students brought to the table combined with the delicious food had everybody going up for seconds.

In the end, the International Dinner was not only a reflection of how food connects us all, but also a celebration of the different cultures and traditions that make the Wyoming Seminary community so strong.

Out of this World!

Saturday, April 25th was a very important day for the Wyoming Seminary community, as it was finally time for the long-awaited dance marathon! In support of the miracle kids at Janet Weis Children’s Hospital, Sem students and faculty gathered in the Blue Gym at 12:30pm and danced their hearts out for seven hours straight. Miracle kids Emma, Chance, Luca, Elisabeth, and Mila all attended the event and thoroughly enjoyed themselves, swaying to the rhythms and enjoying the copious amounts of refreshments at the event, such as the sponsors snack bar and the Rita’s Italian Ice station. Madi Szafran ‘29, who was in attendance for the big event, had nothing but positive things to say about her experience: “SemDM was an amazing experience! I had so much fun with the kids and my friends! I think this is an amazing event and I support the cause! If you didn’t come this year, come next year – don’t miss out!”

Hosting multiple creative and inclusive fundraisers prior to the event, the SemDM executives worked particularly hard to make sure that the miracle kids and their families would have the best experience possible. From pilates to bake sales to powderpuff games, there was something that everybody in the Sem community was able to enjoy and participate in. These events helped strengthen the bonds of our school community. Kaila Chung ‘27 reflects on this, saying “even though I wasn’t able to be at SemDM, I really enjoyed seeing the Sem community come together to support a singular cause with things like Tunes for Tots and the head shaving.” With more fundraising events at the dance marathon such as the big raffle and the continuing t-shirt sale, the Wyoming Seminary community was able to raise a whopping $38,127.79 for Janet Weis Children’s Hospital. Through this event, students and teachers united with each other as well as the miracle families, making the experience extraordinary and especially memorable.

Dancing Through the Decades

With finals approaching from around the corner, the Wyoming Seminary Dance Company brought a special surprise with their annual dance performance. Presented on Friday, May 8th and Sunday, May 10th in the KCCA, the Forty-Fifth Jubilee provided the Wyoming Seminary community with a transformative artistic experience. Pieces varied heavily – from the poignant Dance of Knights to the upbeat Broadway Works, as well as the fan favorite disco piece featuring some of  SEM’s favorite faculty members; audience members truly time-travelled. The hard work of everybody involved was evident in the end result.

With a small cast of twenty dancers, the production created a space for artistry to thrive through many different genres and compositions. This year, along with many upper school students, three new lower school students were also able to bring their passion to the stage. The production additionally featured many alumni including Robert Zaloga ‘20, Samantha Barcia ‘22,  and Brennan Twardowski ‘10. With their contributions, the production was a massive success.

All of this was made possible especially by the work and commitment of Mrs. Bernadine Votjko. Madi Szafran ‘29, a new member to the SEM Dance Company, gushed about her experience: “I love it! Even after doing theater for 9 years, [performing in the dance show] has helped me grow so much in only a few months!”.

Many students had a hand in bringing the performance to life, and not just by performing. The Choreographer’s Workshop contributed incredible pieces to an already astounding performance. The six dancers involved in the Choreographer’s Workshop this year were: Aniella “Nelly” Gabello-Timinski ‘26, Hannah Salesky ‘26, Melina Ospina-Wiese ‘27, Emma Murphy ‘27, Aubrey Fisher ‘27, and Mary Jane Michaels ‘26. In regards to her creative process, senior choreographer Hannah Salesky ‘26 stated, “Choreographing a piece for the show has been a great experience. It taught me a lot about movement and composition, teaching, and all of the technical aspects of the show as well!”

The forty-fifth annual dance show was a testament to the time and hard work of the students, choreographers, and teachers involved and reflected the bigger commitment Mrs. Votjko and her dancers have been putting into the company for decades. Hopefully, the Wyoming Seminary Dance Company continues to provide such wonderful performances for years to come!
