Sem vs. Blair: The Ultimate Showdown

Last Friday night, members of the Sem and greater community all gathered in the Carpenter Athletic Center to one of the most anticipated athletic events of the year: the annual Sem versus Blair wrestling match.

Although the match did not end in favor of the Blue Knights, there were most definitely some moments of the night to celebrate, including Beau Bartlett ‘20 pinning Blair’s no. 1 ranked Shayne Van Ness in just 24 seconds. Other individual victories included wins from Cole Rees ‘21, Jacob Kaminski ‘21, Mike Doggett ‘19, and Darrien Roberts ‘19.

Athlete of the Week: Skylar Roerig ‘21

Position: Backstroke and Freestyle

Hometown: Tunkhannock

Favorite Swimmer: Katie Ledecky

Favorite Moment of Season: Breaking the pool record in the 100 back, and breaking the 200 medley relay with Kylee Kolbicka, Madi Federici, and Aviah Dahlgren

Fun Fact: This is Skylar’s 11th season swimming on a team

During a short time of two years, Skylar Roerig has done some very impressive things on the Sem swim team. Last season as a freshman, she won team MVP and broke numerous records. Despite the team only being about half way through their season, Skylar has already broken the 100 meter record for backstroke and the record for the 200 meter medley along with Aviah Dahlgren, Madi Federici, and Kylee Kolbicka. Skylar and the swim team look to continue their success Thursday January 24 in their meet versus Dallas.

 

Athlete of the Week: Dimitri Gnall

Last season, Dimitri Gnall helped the Wyoming Seminary Boys Basketball to a district championship and even to the second round of the state tournament. This year, for his senior season, he has helped the team get off to a great start. So far, the team is 5-0. This includes wins over Dallas, Crestwood, Susquehanna, Stroudsburg North, and Selinsgrove Area. In just five games, Dimitri has scored a total of 109 points. In the game versus Selinsgrove Area, he had 30 points to help the boys win the Nespoli Tournament 90-50. Additionally, he has gone 26/30 from the free throw line. Dimitri and the boys look to continue their season of success Tuesday 12/18 home versus Abington Heights.
