Athlete of the Week: Luke Johns

After leading Sem’s boys soccer team to a victory on Wednesday night, The Opinator has selected Luke Johns as its athlete of the week. Johns scored three goals on Wednesday night against Tunkhannock, leading Sem to a 7-1 victory. Johns is a junior at Sem and a striker on the team, He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and moved to Moosic, PA when he was only five years old. In his free time, Johns enjoys spending time with his dog, cat, and family. His favorite soccer club is Chelsea, and he looks up to his role model on the team Christian Pulisic. Of his three years at Sem, his favorite memory has been scoring a game-winning goal in his freshman year. He notes that he is looking forward to the rest of the soccer season and hopes to win a district title. Of course, The Opinator wishes Johns and the rest of the team the best of luck this season.

Athlete of the Week: Margaret Mihalick

Just in her freshman year, Margaret Mihalick ‘22 already has accomplished some very immpresive achievements. She was a starter for the varsity basketball team and helped lead the team to an undefeated season in the division. One of their biggest accomplishments as a team was their win against Northwest at an away game. At halftime, the team was down 16 points, but they were able to score 28 points in the fourth quarter alone and comeback for a win. In that game, 15 of the 28 points were scored by Mihalick. That win against Northwest allowed them to secure their undefeated record. In a total of 25 games, Mihalick scored a total of 120 points. Additionally, she has gone 25/32 from the free throw line. In her first year on the basketball team, Margaret Mihalick has achieved so much, and she will be continuing her successful athletic career this spring on the varsity lacrosse team.

Sem vs. Blair: The Ultimate Showdown

Last Friday night, members of the Sem and greater community all gathered in the Carpenter Athletic Center to one of the most anticipated athletic events of the year: the annual Sem versus Blair wrestling match.

Although the match did not end in favor of the Blue Knights, there were most definitely some moments of the night to celebrate, including Beau Bartlett ‘20 pinning Blair’s no. 1 ranked Shayne Van Ness in just 24 seconds. Other individual victories included wins from Cole Rees ‘21, Jacob Kaminski ‘21, Mike Doggett ‘19, and Darrien Roberts ‘19.
