Theater season is in full swing, so it only makes sense that SEM Drama is on the homestretch for November\u2019s performance of \u2018Guys and Dolls.\u201d The iconic Broadway show, based on the short stories of American writer Damon Runyon, has been performed across the world since its 1950 opening run. The classic show about New York gamblers and dancing damsels hasn\u2019t been performed at Wyoming Seminary since 1996. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cGuys and Dolls\u201d follows Benecio Carpentier \u201824 as gambling ringmaster Nathan Detroit challenging big-time better Sky Masterson, played by David Getz \u201824, to a bet over Sky\u2019s ability to woo conservative mission worker Sarah Brown, portrayed by Rachel Lewis \u201825. As Sky becomes stuck between his betting ways and his love for Sarah, Nathan struggles with his own romance with ditzy dancer Adelaide, performed by Lily Roberti \u201824, and his reluctance to marry her after fourteen years. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Supporting cast members include Ari Froelich \u201824 as Nicely-Nicely Johnson, Michael Vodzak \u201824 as Benny Southstreet, Kathryn Eidam \u201827 as Big Jule, Abby Whitby \u201824 as Major Abernathy, Chloe Caputo \u201826 as General Cartwright, Harry Xu \u201825 as Rusty Charlie, and Matias Tollinen \u201825 as Harry the Horse. The show\u2019s soundtrack, composed by legend Frank Loesser, includes timeless songs like \u201cFugue for Tinhorns\u201d, \u201cAdelaide\u2019s Lament\u201d, and \u201cSit Down, You\u2019re Rockin the Boat.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Abby Whitby \u201824 gave her thoughts on how different the musical experience for \u201cGuys and Dolls\u201d has been compared to last year\u2019s \u201cBright Star\u201d; Whitby said, \u201c…going through the big ensemble numbers in the first rehearsals was good, because we could get it down easier, the stuff that was easier to learn.\u201d Technical Director Floyd Bussie, Jr. worked in tandem with Director Jason Sherry \u201891 to design and construct the set pieces for the show\u2019s Broadway setting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
