Wyoming Seminaary’s Mock Trial Teams, both historically and presently talented, worked through the winter term preparing their arguments for two highly selective invitational tournaments, and of course, the varsity districts tournament. This year, Mock Trial received such and influx of participants that three teams were made: varsity, junior varsity 1, and junior varsity 2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\u00a0varsity\u00a0team,\u00a0full\u00a0of\u00a0highly\u00a0experienced\u00a0and\u00a0highly\u00a0talented\u00a0seniors\u00a0is\u00a0still\u00a0set\u00a0to\u00a0compete\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0district\u00a0competition\u00a0for\u00a0mock\u00a0trial,\u00a0where\u00a0Wyoming\u00a0Seminary\u2019s\u00a0teams\u00a0have\u00a0previously\u00a0excelled,\u00a0some\u00a0making\u00a0it\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0state\u00a0championship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The\u00a0Pennsylvania\u00a0state\u00a0bar\u00a0association\u00a0released\u00a0this\u00a0year’s\u00a0case,\u00a0and\u00a0all\u00a0three\u00a0teams\u00a0have\u00a0been\u00a0diligently\u00a0working\u00a0on\u00a0it\u00a0since.\u00a0This\u00a0year\u00a0it\u00a0was\u00a0a\u00a0murder\u00a0case,\u00a0involving\u00a0a\u00a0business\u00a0rivalry\u00a0that\u00a0turned\u00a0into\u00a0violent\u00a0crime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This\u00a0case\u00a0being\u00a0criminal\u00a0and\u00a0not\u00a0civil\u00a0sets\u00a0it\u00a0apart\u00a0vastly\u00a0from\u00a0past\u00a0cases,\u00a0and\u00a0with\u00a0the\u00a0coaching\u00a0of\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Froelich,\u00a0Mrs.\u00a0Stevenson,\u00a0and\u00a0Atty.\u00a0Kowalski,\u00a0all\u00a0three\u00a0teams\u00a0assembled\u00a0their\u00a0casting\u00a0and\u00a0cases\u00a0in\u00a0different\u00a0ways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Ella\u00a0Magida\u00a0\u201826,\u00a0acting\u00a0co-captain\u00a0of\u00a0the\u00a0B-team,\u00a0says\u00a0that\u00a0a\u00a0criminal\u00a0case\u00a0is,\u00a0\u201cincredibly\u00a0different\u00a0than\u00a0a\u00a0civil\u00a0case.\u00a0The\u00a0way\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0performed\u00a0is\u00a0much\u00a0more\u00a0dramatic\u00a0and\u00a0there\u2019s\u00a0a\u00a0bigger\u00a0emphasis\u00a0on\u00a0being\u00a0scored\u00a0on\u00a0passion.\u201d\u00a0Ella\u00a0is\u00a0currently\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0role\u00a0of\u00a0a\u00a0prosecution\u00a0attorney,\u00a0tasked\u00a0with\u00a0convicting\u00a0the\u00a0defendant\u00a0of\u00a0murder\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0first\u00a0degree.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sadly,\u00a0Sem\u2019s\u00a0teams\u00a0were\u00a0unable\u00a0to\u00a0compete\u00a0in\u00a0either\u00a0invitational\u00a0tournament.\u00a0The\u00a0first\u00a0tournament\u00a0was\u00a0set at\u00a0LaSalle\u00a0University\u00a0and\u00a0the\u00a0second\u00a0invitational\u00a0was\u00a0hosted\u00a0by\u00a0UPenn.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Several\u00a0scrimmage\u00a0brackets\u00a0have\u00a0been\u00a0planned\u00a0for\u00a0the\u00a0end\u00a0of\u00a0wenter\u00a0term,\u00a0allowing\u00a0the\u00a0three\u00a0teams\u00a0and\u00a0both\u00a0sides\u00a0of\u00a0each\u00a0team\u00a0(i.e.\u00a0defense\u00a0and\u00a0prosecution)\u00a0to\u00a0practice\u00a0their\u00a0cases\u00a0and\u00a0performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
First\u00a0year\u00a0mock\u00a0trial\u00a0team\u00a0member,\u00a0Josie\u00a0Carpenter\u00a0\u201826,\u00a0explains\u00a0how\u00a0the\u00a0scrimmages\u00a0have\u00a0run\u00a0this\u00a0far\u00a0by\u00a0saying,\u00a0\u201cWe\u00a0already\u00a0had\u00a0one\u00a0in\u00a0house\u00a0scrimmage,\u00a0and\u00a0it\u00a0was\u00a0just\u00a0really\u00a0cool\u00a0to\u00a0see\u00a0how\u00a0everyone\u2019s\u00a0cases\u00a0came\u00a0together,\u00a0and\u00a0how\u00a0people\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a0varsity\u00a0team\u00a0perform\u00a0and\u00a0act\u00a0in\u00a0a\u00a0courtroom\u00a0like\u00a0environment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However,\u00a0these\u00a0home\u00a0scrimmages\u00a0aren\u2019t\u00a0the\u00a0only\u00a0ones\u00a0to\u00a0come.\u00a0The\u00a0teams\u00a0will\u00a0also\u00a0have\u00a0a\u00a0more\u00a0formal\u00a0scrimmage\u00a0against\u00a0each\u00a0other\u00a0at\u00a0the\u00a0county\u00a0courthouse\u00a0in\u00a0Wilkes-Barre,\u00a0where\u00a0unlike\u00a0an\u00a0invitational\u00a0tournament,\u00a0more\u00a0spectators\u00a0are\u00a0able\u00a0to\u00a0come\u00a0support\u00a0the\u00a0team.\u00a0Although\u00a0this\u00a0scrimmage\u2019s\u00a0date\u00a0is\u00a0still\u00a0uncertain,\u00a0the\u00a0team\u00a0knows\u00a0that\u00a0it\u00a0is\u00a0\u00a0going\u00a0to\u00a0set\u00a0the\u00a0varsity\u00a0team\u00a0on\u00a0the\u00a0track\u00a0for\u00a0success\u00a0leading\u00a0up\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0district\u00a0and\u00a0state\u00a0seasons.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
